Seniors give back
In the summer of 2022, three Mounds View seniors founded two nonprofits with the goal of giving back to their school and community. One nonprofit aims to help students at all levels better understand mathematical concepts they learn in math class, while another builds websites for local businesses at no cost.

National School Lunch Week recipe contest
The Nutrition Services department celebrated National School Lunch Week by holding student recipe contests at each elementary school. The winners won the opportunity to serve their winning recipe to their classmates at lunch for one day. Winners served their recipes at school throughout the month of November.

Walk for Water
In May, Mounds View High School’s H2O for Life club raised more than $1,500 at its third annual Walk for Water. See the full blog post here.
Performance at Target Field
More than 240 fifth- and sixth-graders who participated in the District's summer orchestra program performed the National Anthem at a Minnesota Twins game in September. See more photos below, courtesy of Carlos Gonzales at the Star Tribune.
CEO for a day
Edgewood Middle School sixth-grader Will Bock recently had the opportunity to act as CEO for a day thanks to a partnership with Junior Achievement and local construction company Mortenson. After his experience, Will sat down for an interview with Mortenson CEO Dan Johnson. Read the full interview here.
Senior Sunrise
During the first week of school, Mounds View high School seniors gathered to watch the sunrise from Mustang Stadium. In June, they will gather again to watch the sun set on their high school experiences. See more photos here.
Econ Team travels to Germany
Led by teacher and Fulbight recipient Martha Rush, four Econ Team students from Mounds View High School traveled to Germany this summer to compete in the Young Economic Summit competition with student teams from other countries. Read Martha's blog post about the trip here.
Awareness for safe driving
After a series of recent driving accidents involving District students, high school athletes from both Irondale and Mounds View teamed up in September to bring awareness to safe driving. Players from both girls soccer teams wore special jerseys with a message on the back that read, “Drive Safe, Someone Loves You.” Watch the CBS News story about the initiative below.

Polar Plunge for Special Olympics
Edgewood Middle School and Irondale High School students teamed up in April for a Polar Plunge to raise money for Special Olympics Minnesota.

Mental Health Awareness
In May, Mounds View High School students organized a mental health walk for the community. Nearly 50 students and adults gathered for a benefit walk at Long Lake Park in New Brighton. Watch a video about the event from WCCO News below.
Students take action for service dogs and disabled veterans
As part of a service learning project, students in the Mounds View High School Business Management class set out to raise money for Pawsitivity Service Dogs, a nonprofit organization dedicated to removing dogs from shelters to train them as service dogs for veterans and children with disabilities. State of MN Stock Market Game
Mounds View High School students Max Desrosier, Noadiah Lobley and Tonita Torboh placed in the top 10 of the region's 151 teams in the Minnesota Stock Market Game. The game gives students in grades 4-12 the opportunity to invest a virtual $100,000 in stocks, mutual funds and bonds and learn more about U.S. economic system.The students were honored at an awards banquet in May.
Solar energy at Mounds View Public Schools

Gophers basketball player hosts camp at Irondale
University of Minnesota men’s basketball player and Irondale alumnus Sean Sutherlin ’17 hosted a youth basketball camp at Irondale High School. Read the KARE 11 story about the camp here.
Mounds View students enjoy inaugural StarLab visit
In December, Mounds View High School students in Mr. Hairrell’s class were able to use StarLab, a portable, inflatable planetarium that engages students in a unique, cost-effective way. In the 2019-20 school year, the Mounds View Schools Education Foundation raised funds to replace the District’s aging StarLab.
